Tony Hartwell worked across the material supply chain, from mine to recycling for more than 25 years with breaks for specialist Masters degrees in the USA and UK. Six years working at mines and smelters in Africa provided real hands-on experience. This was used in the design, deployment and operation of a wide range of processing plants for primary and secondary materials in more than 35 countries including the production of ferro-alloys from scrap in the UK.
Since 2006 Tony has worked on programmes for the optimisation of material supply chains, at the Universities of Birmingham, Leicester and Oxford and with the Knowledge Transfer Network and the Satellite Application Catapult. He is a member of the team that developed the £16 million ‘Security of Supply of Mineral Resources” R&D programme that is currently being supported by NERC & EPSRC funding.
